Visit by Anne Wood – Ethnomusicologist at SOAS

SIPA was delighted to welcome Anne Wood, an ethnomusicologist at SOAS who classically trained at the Royal Academy of Music. Accompanied by Anthony O’Flaherty and Gillie O’Flaherty, a guitarist based in Glasgow, their visit included engaging conversations with SIPA’s directors and staff on musical heritage, preservation practices, and the creative connections between Scottish and South Asian traditions. The exchange offered valuable artistic insight and strengthened SIPA’s commitment to fostering global musical dialogue. Known for her work in traditional Scottish music and cross-cultural musical exploration, Anne toured the SIPA facilities and spent time learning about our archival, research, and educational initiatives.

Our Vision

In the words of Raza Kazim:

“The objective of the Institute is to discover and establish through knowledge, reason and verification, a framework of theory and practice in an effort to contribute towards a new and superior civilization emerging in our time. The Institute symbolizes my answer to the age-old question of human misery and happiness: taking the next step in human evolution through mental intelligence.”

Consistent with its conceived vision, SIPA has functioned as a dynamic social laboratory, fostering a culture of intellectual curiosity and innovation.
