Noor Zehra Kazim Delivers TEDTalk on the Sagar Veena at Kinnaird College for Women University

On 9 May, Noor Zehra Kazim, CEO of the Sanjan Nagar Institute of Philosophy & Arts (SIPA), delivered a TEDx talk in collaboration with Kinnaird College for Women University, Lahore. The session brought together students, academics, and members of the wider community for an engaging exploration of one of Pakistan’s most remarkable musical innovations.

In her talk, Noor Zehra Kazim introduced the audience to the Sagar Veena—a unique string instrument developed by the late philosopher, jurist, and musicologist Raza Kazim. She discussed the instrument’s origins, its distinctive tonal qualities, and the decades of research and artistic dedication that have shaped its evolution. The presentation highlighted the Sagar Veena not only as a musical instrument but also as a profound expression of philosophical inquiry, cultural heritage, and artistic innovation.

Reflecting on her lifelong journey as the instrument’s foremost performer, Noor Zehra shared insights into the discipline of mastering the Sagar Veena and the role of music in deepening human perception, creativity, and emotional understanding. Her talk invited the audience to appreciate the significance of preserving rare artistic traditions while encouraging thoughtful engagement with Pakistan’s rich cultural legacy.

SIPA is honoured to have collaborated with Kinnaird College for Women University in fostering dialogue around music, philosophy, and the arts. We extend our sincere gratitude to the TEDxKinnaird team, the faculty, and the students for creating a vibrant platform where ideas, culture, and creativity could come together.

Our Vision

In the words of Raza Kazim:

“The objective of the Institute is to discover and establish through knowledge, reason and verification, a framework of theory and practice in an effort to contribute towards a new and superior civilization emerging in our time. The Institute symbolizes my answer to the age-old question of human misery and happiness: taking the next step in human evolution through mental intelligence.”

Consistent with its conceived vision, SIPA has functioned as a dynamic social laboratory, fostering a culture of intellectual curiosity and innovation.
