Mehfil-e-Samaat: A Sanjan Nagar Listening Session

Held on 15 January in the Sanjan Nagar Listening Room, the session invited participants to experience music not as background sound, but as an immersive and shared act of presence.

The listening session featured the evocative performances of Reshma, Hamid Ali Bela, Iqbal Bahu, and Pathanay Khan—artists whose distinctive styles embody the richness of South Asia’s devotional and mystical musical traditions. From the meditative depth of qawwali to the heartfelt expression of folk poetry, the curated selections offered participants an opportunity to engage deeply with music as a vehicle for contemplation, memory, and spiritual connection.

Designed around the ethos that listening itself is a meaningful cultural practice, Mehfil-e-Samaat encouraged audiences to slow down, reflect, and experience music in a communal setting. The evening reaffirmed SIPA’s commitment to preserving traditions of deep listening and creating spaces where art fosters dialogue, introspection, and collective appreciation.

Through initiatives such as Mehfil-e-Samaat, SIPA continues to celebrate the enduring power of music to connect individuals with history, culture, and one another.

Our Vision

In the words of Raza Kazim:

“The objective of the Institute is to discover and establish through knowledge, reason and verification, a framework of theory and practice in an effort to contribute towards a new and superior civilization emerging in our time. The Institute symbolizes my answer to the age-old question of human misery and happiness: taking the next step in human evolution through mental intelligence.”

Consistent with its conceived vision, SIPA has functioned as a dynamic social laboratory, fostering a culture of intellectual curiosity and innovation.
