Recording of music is a pivotal part of the Institute’s commitment to preserving and making available to the present and future generations the legacy of musical treasure and tradition. SIPA operates a state-of-the-art Analog Recording Studio that has faithfully captured musical performances of artists from both India and Pakistan by preserving every intricate detail and nuance of their art.
All recordings are made live using a two-channel analog spool recorder at 15 ips, without the use of overdubs or multi-tracking. The recording process is a real-time experience, where tracks are mixed during the artist’s performance, with no post-session mixing. Over time, our department has developed innovative techniques to capture the unique subtleties of specific musical sounds, through making use of one of the finest collections of microphones available.
In addition to live recording, the department is dedicated to restoring and preserving old and nearly lost recordings, ensuring the longevity of valuable musical heritage.
