The driving force behind SIPA’s work in Audio Engineering is the realization that even the finest existing equipment falls short in capturing the subtle nuances and microtones essential to music, particularly the intricate beauty of South Asian classical music tradition.
What began as an exploration into speaker design quickly evolved into a comprehensive project that also focused on amplifiers, realizing that high-quality speakers require equally impressive amplification. Since April 1996, the audio engineers at Sanjan Nagar have been developing a unique range of amplifiers and speakers under the brand name ‘Bhulley’. Initially inspired by modifying commercially available valve-based Class A amplifiers, they have since expanded their capabilities to make everything in-house except the electron valves, and some resistors and diodes, crafting each component to perfection.
By crafting different models of specialized reproduction and monitoring equipment — like Power Amplifiers, Pre-Amplifiers (including Phono Pre-Amplifier), and Speakers — our goal was to faithfully reproduce ‘musical reality’ instead of ‘Hi-Fi’ and thereby redefine the connection and communication between artists and listeners, allowing for a more meaningful creation and appreciation of musical content and subtleties.
At the heart of our work lies a commitment to delivering an emotively resonating, authentic and pleasing musical experience that stays true to its source. This involves a meticulous translation of musical elements—like timbres, resonances, and harmonics—into cutting-edge audio technology. Over the years, the department has pioneered radical new approaches to amplifier and speaker design, rigorous experiments with materials and innovations in new techniques, methods, and technologies, establishing ‘Bhulley’ as a truly unique product in the global audio landscape.
