Evolutionary Mentology is a philosophical cum scientific inquiry into the origins, evolution, and functioning of both the human mind and the process of Nature as a whole, their future evolutionary direction and the relationship between them. The purpose of this comprehensive inquiry is simply to enable a contemporary individual to reduce the contradictions and conflicts that he/she is facing today and increase his/her pleasures and happiness.
How? Through discovering some new tools of understanding and doing, which he/she can use to intelligently restructure and upgrade his/her own mental processes and capabilities—emotional, intellectual, sensitivity and habit processes—and to make a new culture, politics, economics, in short, a new society.
This entire body of thinking incorporates work, in the form of audio lectures by Raza Kazim, on a whole range of interconnected areas and issues of inquiry, offering new insights and generating knowledge beyond what contemporary natural and social sciences are coming up with. One can get a fair idea of its scope from the following list of topics it deals with.
Continuous work is being carried out on developing, chiseling, verifying and organizing the growing body of thought in all these areas, in the light of available knowledge from disciplines such as psychology, biology, quantum/particle physics, brain sciences, consciousness studies, neuroscience, artificial intelligence, genetics, evolution, astrophysics and sociology. Combined with a detailed analysis of perceptions and knowledge acquired from the works in philosophy, history, politics, sociology and religious history. For organizing and sharing this work, the activities of the department include: transcribing, titling, formatting and categorizing the audio lectures on Mentology delivered by Mr. Kazim.
Compiling and composing these lectures in the form of papers, and at a parallel level in the form of specific chapters of a book. Up to now four drafts of Evolutionary Mentology and a comprehensive paper (among other papers) which was chosen as poster presentation in the July 2007 conference ‘Toward the Science of Consciousness’ in Budapest, have come out and work on the final version is in process.
Classification, cataloguing and regular updating of the knowledge base relevant to Mentology is another task of the department. The aim is to engage philosophers, researchers, academics, and students in a dialogue so that further crystallization and maturing of this work can take place through a fruitful exchange of critical comments, feedback, etc.
In the words of Raza Kazim:
“The objective of the Institute is to discover and establish through knowledge, reason and verification, a framework of theory and practice in an effort to contribute towards a new and superior civilization emerging in our time. The Institute symbolizes my answer to the age-old question of human misery and happiness: taking the next step in human evolution through mental intelligence.”
